Sigh.

When I rang the vet this afternoon, they told me the poor cat had died not long after we'd brought him in. The veterinary nurse thanked me for bringing him to them and said that he'd had internal injuries and he passed after they gave him some pain relief. I am glad though that he was in a safe place, warm and with some degree of comfort, as opposed to dying cold, frightened and in pain on the side of a busy road. Poor thing. I'm really sorry he had no identification because I don't like the thought of someone out there wondering where their cat has gone. If I see anything about a missing cat that matches his description, I will probably ring them. He had a very distinctive collar and I'd have to make sure I was talking to the right people. I'm not about to traumatise some poor person whose cat might have just gone for an extended wander. If it comes up that is. We'll see.

I got upset then after hearing the news and had to go upstairs for a cry. I had hoped there would be a happy ending. I'm very soft when it comes to animals. But I did my best and he didn't die alone. That's a kind of comfort.

It was very nice of you to bring the cat in for examination, and it really is nice to know that it didn't die wandering alone.

Thanks and yes, the more I think about it, the more I'm happy he died with people looking after him.

I know, the poor pet. And he was such a gorgeous cat too. Such a shame.

You did do your best for him! The cat was very fortunate to have people caring for him when he passed.

He was fortunate not to be all on his own. The more I think about it, the more comforted I am by that thought.

I am sorry to hear that the cat didn't make it. That was really good of you to help him. You really did do your best and should be comforted that he died in the vet's office surrounded by caring, helpful people and not alone, in pain, and at the side of the road.

Thank you. Like I said, I'm just a soft touch where animals are concerned.

Oh, I'm sorry. Take comfort in the fact that you did everything you could to help the poor kitty.

Thanks, I'm feeling slightly better about the whole thing. It is sad though. He was obviously somebody's pet.

I'm sorry. Once we found a poor shivering cat on the roadside who was obviously in a bad way. We took him in and got him warm and contacted the DSPCA. He died before they came. It was really upsetting. I still think about it, but it is comforting to know he was in some comfort before he died.

Yeah, I suppose in the end you can only get them cared for and hope for the best. He was gorgeous though and so friendly even though he was in pain. It's such a waste. And it's so random. I mean, how many cats run across that road that we don't see and they get on fine.

Poor thing. =\ But you did what you could, and at least he passed away peacefully.

Poor kitten, you did a really good thing, though.
